Whodunnit? Reaction + Handicap - Episode 5

A little surprised by the results of Whodunnit? tonight. Not the winner, but the victim. Make that victims. Episode 6 is going to be the creepiest yet, I think. But on to Episode 5.

In episode the fifth, the action took place outdoors on the trail.  Ulysses was killed by a poisoned BOARD WITH NAILS IN IT (really) made to look like a snakebite.  There were snake hints in the morgue, at the crime scene (Geno found a non-poisonous king snake in a saddlebag), and all over the clue hunt, but it was all red herrings.  Cris found the Killer's Clue (and won the round) in a cabin full of snakes while the Gang of Five was stuck.  Eventually Sasha and Ronnie reached out to Kam-Blondes, and Cris gave them both advice: that all the clues were in the stables.  Cris was (mostly) right, as the stables had the nails, the mortar&pestle, and the poisonous flowers.  Ronnie ended up with a remarkably accurate account (nails poisoned in Oleander) and Sasha didn't.  At the episode's end, Geno, Dana, and Sasha each received a Scared card, and the following morning Geno found powdery statues (!?) of Dana and Sasha frozen in place by the hall piano.  Yikes.

EPISODE 5 - Bum Ba Dee Da

Sheri (0)
Dontae (0)
Adrianna (0)
Don (0)
Ulysses (0+1)
Dana (0+1)
Sasha (0+1)

I was expecting for the producers of Whodunnit? to include more than two Scared cards for a future episode, but I wasn't necessarily expecting a double victim.  I probably should have, since the Whodunnit? mystery novel had a double victim at around the same point (the ebook is probably worth the $3 price tag, since the book was decent and that's half a sandwich). Anyhow, both Dana and Sasha went the snakebite route and got bitten, thanks to Dana neglecting wood chips in Ulysses's jeans, Melina getting her snakes mixed up at the morgue, and Sasha distrusting Cris's surprisingly correct and unsurprisingly vague advice.  It's too bad, since Dana did a fine job investigating in the prior episode and Sasha was one of my picks to win it all (Sasha and Ronnie were my horses right from episode 1). Now they're... stuffed? Taxidermy'd? Mummified? Eesh. Creepy final image.

Cris

I still think that Cris isn't as clever as Kam or Ronnie (my guesses for most likely winners), but she found the clue and won the round and that says something.  Cris gave half-clues to Ronnie and Sasha, in a similar manner to which Cris got a half-clue from Geno in the prior episode.  I think Cris did so in good faith (from her perspective she had the murder 75% solved just from the crime scene), and as such I'm a little less certain of Cris's odds to be the killer.  But it's more clear than ever that the only ticket to victory is either finding that clue or being on the clue-finder's team.  Next week will come down to that and not who plays the best social game.

Geno
I love the Geno vs. Kam feud.  They each have thought the other was the killer from episode 1, and have emerged as alpha dogs on opposing teams.  I think they're both smart in their own way, and I would enjoy it very much if they were included in the final 3 or 4 players; if the final trio is Geno, Kam, and a third guest that turns out to be the murderer, I'll be tickled pink.  But anyhow, Geno believed that the snake he found at the crime scene was venomous, and as such didn't see through the ruse like Ronnie managed to and got Scared.  Geno did make it through, but he's definitely shaken.  His reactions seemed too real for him to be the killer, but I have faith in his cleverness.  I'm pulling for you, Geno.

Kam

Kam's "now the shoe is on the other foot!" accusation made to the other team is ridiculous, since it was his rude freezing-out in the second episode that started this whole team business in the first place.  Anyhow, Kam seems a little smarter and more devious than Geno (who seems bolder and more trusting), so I'd put his winning odds and killer odds a little higher than his counterpart.  He's also pretty good at putting cases together and solving clues, with his only real botch being Don's murder, which got him Scared.  I believe in Kam's skullduggery and attitude, but there's something to it....

Lindsey

I still think Lindsey is a pretty strong candidate to be the killer, since she's played both sides a bit, isn't trusted by anyone, and has never gotten a Scared card despite incorrect clips of her case presentation being shown.  Maybe she's a good test-taker?  Maybe she's the killer?  Couldn't tell ya, but I don't think she's quite as clever as either of her teammates.  My second-favorite feud in this show is between Lindsey and Cris - the two blondes of the original Team Lawyers-Blondes. Lindsey has accused Cris of being the killer in every single episode, and Cris finally came around to accuse Lindsey in episode five. They're on the same team but don't trust each other at all!  I love it.

Melina

I was surprised at Melina's survival in this episode, indicating that her case presentation test was better than that of Dana, Sasha, or Geno.  That happened when Melina seemed to subscribe to the snake theory better than Sasha did. Did Melina mix up the snakes in the morgue on purpose? (failing to identify yellow stripes, etc.). I'm not sure.  I think that Melina's probably the weakest remaining player, but it could also mean that she's... the killer. And an excellent actress.

Ronnie

Ronnie's in a weird position.  He's been accused of backstabbing and withholding information before, and his accusers were mostly correct.  When Ronnie received a hint from Cris just before the case presentations, he had a remarkably accurate deposition, avoiding the snake angle and getting the oleander and nails right.  But getting Spared after visiting Kam's team for that clue makes him look suspicious indeed, and I'm not sure if Melina or Geno will trust him after that.  Well, hopefully the Gang of Five Three can come together, because you need three people to cover those investigation phases.

---

I should come with a new team name now that the Gang of Five has lost two players.  Maybe... GeRoMe?  Sure.  Team Gerome vs. Team Kam-Blondes.  I'll roll with that.  Next week should be a showdown AND a creep-fest.
